When Kohila started working with Noah, he had a hard time managing his time. He's had tutors for math for over 9 years, and I know that they just enable him to become dependent.
Noah is good at getting other people to do things for him but there's no one holding your hand in a test or exam.
In just a few short few months, you showed him how to become independent, and he took those skills and applied them to his other subjects. He became a different type of student and did a lot better. There's been a big change in him. And working online with you was simply the best thing that could have happened for him. I was skeptical at first, because he's easily distracted, but he was able to focus better online, for the time you needed him. Math is probably never going to be his favorite subject, but you showed him that it is possible to do it and he learned how to do it very well, and that was invaluable.

We saw that Nithara was struggling with math and she really didn't enjoy doing it and there were some struggles between me and her about not doing her work.
But after working with you there's a big, big improvement in her. She got close to 90% in grade 10, and I know now she's enjoying it, and she tells people it's one of her favorite subjects which I'm glad to hear, and sometimes her friends ask her to teach them. So that's a really nice positive things to see.
Now she has a confidence that she can work it out. That's what I noticed, whenever I meet her now, compared to before, it's like, I can handle this. I can do it.

When my son started working with you, he wasn't taking school very seriously, and was putting in an average effort at best. Part of the problem was that no one had ever taught him what it takes to be a student, and how to become a good one.
Many parents never really learned how to do that, including me, so it's impossible for us to teach those skills to our own children, and they are certainly not taught in any school.
Thank goodness we found you Kohila, because your work with Markus not only changed the course of his future, but it changed him as a person, and it changed for the better my relationship with him.
After he started working with you his confidence soared, he was super motivated, and he put in the work. My respect for his efforts and his work ethic just grew and grew.
If there is anyone on the fence about working with Kohila and her process, don't hesitate to begin as soon as possible.

Since working with you, he's had, I believe 80% or above on every test that he's taken. But the biggest thing is his comfort level and I now know he's truly understanding it. So, he's going into tests more confident and going in with much more preparedness instead of just opening a book, looking at it and thinking that he's studying or thinking that he's preparing for a test in his mind, when really, he had no idea what it meant to prepare or how to do it. So, I know he's better prepared.
And it's a life tool, really, this kind of this process he's learned from you which is understanding not only how to get it done but understanding the why. It's really critical.
And for the final exam, he actually used the word aced. He said he 'aced' a section for sure, and I'm like, wow, I haven't heard you use that term with regards to a math test before, ever.

When we started, our daughter was getting a C- in lower level math. Last year she got an A in grade 10 foundations and pre-calculus.

When we first, my daughter was barely passing grade 9 math. Not only have her grades gone up, her mindset has changed and her self-confidence has improved which has affected all other areas of her life for the positive

Kohila has been an amazing math coach to both my sons and both boys are completely different students in all subjects because of Kohila. She was able to figure out the best work ethic strategies for each as individuals.
My 18-year old son Braidon just ended his grade 12 year with an award of Excellence in Math 12, with a finishing mark of 86%. Kohila also coached my 15-year old son Kalem through Grade 10 and just recently she guided Kalem to complete and pass his entire Grade 11 math course in a total span of just 3 weeks from beginning to end.
Kohila was recommended to us by a neighbourhood friend, who told us Kohila turns D students into A students, and they were not wrong. Both boys say Kohila is 10 times a better teacher then ALL of their past Math teachers put together.

As a parent seeing your child struggle and basically give up on school is a tough thing to see and accept. Motivation was down and there was absolutely no interest in doing any extra work.
I learned of Kohila through friends who highly recommended me to call her and give it a try with Marcus. I can only say that it was the best thing I did for my son in high school.
Once he discovered that he 'could do it' and get good marks, it led him to want this in every subject. Even his teachers could not help but comment on the drastic change they saw happening and the confidence that Marcus now had.
I cannot recommend her enough to anyone whose child is struggling.

In desperation over my daughter's lack of progress in school, especially regarding her dyscalculia, I began to home educate her. We tried many math programs but nothing really developed her understanding. At this point, we found Kohila, who told us every child is capable of learning math.
Although we were in Ireland, and Kohila in Canada we started having online live lessons with her. Kohila encouraged my daughter to work with her strengths and focussed on her abilities in creating patterns and designs, as well as helping her see the maths involved in those creations. This, along with some very
back-to-basics math activities increased not only her understanding, but her self-confidence.
Now she is at the point that she is progressing and moving forward every day in her learning. One of my daughter's favourite activities in her free time these days is drawing sacred geometry, which are engineering type creations. This and this would not have been possible without the way Kohila approached her learning.
Kohila met her where she was in her understanding, and not by age expectations, and also by knowing the type of learner she is, very visual and artistic and this has set her up for success in the future.
Ashley
Before seeing you I just kind of had an attitude where I just gave up very easily and wouldn't even try to put in effort because it was just very frustrating to me. I was very mean to myself and I would always say things like, "I don't know, I can't do it."
I always took the easy out and dismissed my capabilities. I needed someone to help me and push me to find it within myself to get my pen writing and start working. You really helped me move past that point. And that's how I got the marks I really needed thanks to you because I was able to stop having that mentality of 'I can't do it' and start turning that into, 'I can do it'. I do know. I do know things."
Once you realize you are capable then you can start using that and it helps you perform well academically. You really do need to feel confident in this world to thrive and do well and to truly succeed. You need to know that you are capable, you are smart, and you can do it. All these things.
The most valuable thing I've learned from you is to not give up so easily and to keep trying and to stop beating myself up if I don't get what I really want. And you showed me how. It's a matter of believing in yourself and putting in the work that gets you results. That still helps me today
Ross
I was really bad at math and couldn't understand it and now I am really good at math and I'm getting a lot better at understanding the concepts. My math grades improved and I went from barely passing to nearly an A.
I'm a lot better at talking with my teacher now too. One of the most valuable things I learned is how to stay calm during tests. I can go through a test a lot quicker now and do all the answers. And instead of taking the whole class, I take half the class now.
Riti
When I started, with you, I was very pessimistic. My thought process was, I can't do it. Like I can't, I'm not a math person. But I learned from you that's not true at all. There's no such thing as a math person or English person or an art person. It's your mindset. It's choice and it's training. If you put your mind to it and if you really think that you're capable of doing it, you can do anything. And that's what I learned from you. And I'm not joking. I changed my mindset. There's nothing that is impossible. You can do what you put your mind to, you know?
And now I'm in university, and I'm just so much more in tune with what I'm doing. And I'm in the present and I'm able to focus. If you tell yourself you can't do something, you are naturally not going to be able to do it. And that's a fact, and that's something you've taught me. I remember that you would always tell me, Hey, don't tell yourself you can't do it because you're just setting yourself up for failure.
Nithara
I like math a whole lot more because it's a lot easier than it used to be. After you learn a specific method and you know how to follow a set of procedures it makes it so much easier, and that's what I learned from you and MathCodes. First you need to know why you are doing it, then you need to know how to do it.
I used to go to Kuman but the only thing that really did was encourage me to memorize things. That might be good when you're younger, for times tables, but as you get older you can't really memorize things, you need to start understanding the math concepts so you can apply it properly because each scenario in math is different.
If you memorize how to do one, it will only apply to that one question. You actually have to use some critical thinking to understand.
Carly
Words can't express how much I've changed over the year I spent working with you. I'm an entirely different person than the shy, scared person who met you last year at the start of grade 11. You didn't just teach me math, but you built me a certain confidence that I didn't know I was missing from my life.
So many times, I would say, I can't do this, I just can't. Everybody else seemed to understand it, but I just couldn't, and it was like trying to read braille. It was like someone put a mask on over my eyes, and I couldn't see. So, if there's anything that I've learned from your teachings, it's that giving up is not an option.
I'm 100% sure that's something that will stick with me for the rest of my life and that if I work hard enough at something, I can achieve anything. You helped me conquer my biggest fear and from now on I will definitely go through life with confidence, and for that I couldn't thank you enough.
Phadra
I recently finished grade 12. Going into grade 11 was difficult for me. I had good grades the previous year but by the middle of the first term I only had roughly 60-65% percent in math. I started working with Kohila, and by the end of that term my mark boosted to 75% percent and by the end of the year it was 95% and I kept that mark all the way until the end of grade 12.
That was higher than I ever had before.
My greatest success is in the way I am able to learn. Kohila teaches in a way that is very different and she taught me how to look at the entire picture and not just a single focal point or a single concept. I know how to approach a problem differently now, and I have strategies to do that. And now, I am actually super excited to move on with my math career, something I never thought I would want to do.
Hannah
A huge thing that you offered was buildling my confidence. You taught me that I always had the capacity to do math, and I had the ability to understand the information. It was just that I had drilled this disdain for those subjects into my head and I didn't really want to do it.
When I would just do one question, I'd get frustrated and I wouldn't know how to figure it out. What you offered that helped me so much was how would explain things in a different way than I had heard or read prior. I would see an explanation in a chemistry textbook and think this is like reading another language.
I had no idea what it was saying. You would just change it and paraphrase it into ways that were easy to understand. And that was really so incredibly helpful.
So just seeing information in a unique way, that is condensed and put into layman's terms, and put into everyday language, was so amazing.
I'm halfway through my nursing degree now, and I still use the skills you taught me and which helped me get here.
Jackson
I've been working with you for about 4 months because I needed to do well on my SAT test because I need to get my marks up for a lacrosse scholarship.
Since working with you, math has become a lot easier. I don't think I failed like one test since working with you.
So before working with you I would second guess myself and I just wouldn't know. I'd think between two things and then I ended up getting it wrong or I would just freeze up and just not know what to do. Like, I couldn't remember anything. But you taught me why we do this and then going through each and every one of the steps. And I really think that the reason I did so good was because you went through the why with me. Knowing why we do this and why this happens really helps me understand it more. And, now I'm using your process, and repeating the codes, and now they're ingrained into my head.
I've sat the SAT's twice, once in March and once in May, and the biggest improvement I had was in math. I'm already talking to coaches, and I know I'll be getting at least a few scholarship offers, so I'm feeling good about everything.
Claire
In grade 10 Claire started to fall behind in math and by grade 11 it was obvious that she needed extra help, so she started working with a tutor. What we found was that the tutor helped her with her homework, but this wasn't really helping her in the way that she needed. When I saw an article in the paper about Kohila, I thought it sounded like a good fit. I appreciated that Kohila had also struggled with math, and I figured that it would be better to be helped by someone who had worked through their own struggles, as opposed to someone who was naturally gifted in math.
When we first contacted Kohila, Claire had gone from getting A's in grade 9, to B's in grade 10, then downward to C's and even below that, mid-way through grade 11.
Pre-calc 12 was a requirement for the university program Claire wanted to apply to. After working with Kohila we were pleased she was able to achieve this goal, achieving a high B, and was admitted to her program of choice. I'm sure this would not have been possible without Kohila and her methods and for that we are very grateful!

I am in grade 11. I used to hate math, and I was really bad at it, and now I really like math and it's one of my favorite subjects. Now instead of saying, "ugh I have this", and just sit there and not know what to do, and just wait for someone to help, I can actually do the problems on my own. This is 100% because of the skills I learned from Kohila
Zach
When I first started with Kohila, I was really down on myself, and I didn't know what to do. I was doing ok in my other subjects, but not in math.
Now my confidence has really improved, and math is a lot easier. At the beginning of the year, I was almost failing and now I am almost at an A.
I am really looking forward to next year.
